Program Costs & Insurance
SPAR Costs
SPAR costs vary depending on: infectious disease status, testing requirements, legal guidelines, and the gestational carrier. The range for heterosexual couples not in need of a gestational carrier is from $3,000 to $5,000. Fees are discussed at the time of the consult. The initial consultation with Ann Kiessling, PhD requires a non-refundable $725 deposit.
Couples using a gestational carrier must have their specimens tested in compliance with FDA regulations. The FDA blood and urine tests are required within seven days of the semen specimen collection. Because of this tight turnaround, men should provide at least three specimens to offset the 15% chance of an HIV-positive result rendering a specimen unusable. The total costs for consultations, specimen collection, testing, storage, and shipping range from $8,000 to $16,000 for couples using a surrogate.
SPAR fees have been established as the minimum needed for us to cover the equipment and staff needed to offer these specialized services. SPAR is not for profit and this program, as well as our research, are supported by donations.
Infertility Procedure Costs
Costs vary according to the clinic. In Boston; IVF is $10,000 to $25,000 per cycle, the cup insemination procedure costs about $2,000 to $3,000 per attempt.
Insurance
Insurance coverage varies by patient, policy, and location. PCR tests typically are not eligible for insurance coverage. Bedford Research Foundation does not handle insurance billing but will provide necessary laboratory paperwork for claims submission.
