Experienced Nurse: Part-Time SPAR Coordinator & Clinical Research Assistant
Location:
Bedford Research Foundation (www.bedfordresearch.org)
About Us:
The Bedford Research Foundation is a respected private research institution conducting innovative clinical work outside traditional government funding channels. Our small, collaborative team is making significant contributions to medical research in a supportive environment.
About the SPAR Program:
The Special Program of Assisted Reproduction (SPAR) is an international program designed to prevent infection in wives, surrogates, and babies during fertility procedures using sperm from men who are living with sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV. SPAR uses highly sensitive PCR tests to detect the presence of HIV in semen, which is crucial because blood tests alone cannot reliably predict the presence of virus in semen. The program works with semen specimens that test negative for the virus, which can then be used in reproductive procedures to minimize the risk of viral transmission.
